360 kW

Description
The Marvelwood School, an independent boarding school in Kent, CT, sought to reduce rising utility costs and strengthen its environmental commitment. With limited rooftop space and a scenic campus to preserve, Marvelwood partnered with DHD to design a multi-site solar solution tailored to its needs.
DHD engineered and built three behind-the-meter solar arrays, each about 120 kW, strategically placed to balance efficiency and aesthetics. Together, the systems generate approximately 490,000 kWh of clean energy annually, offsetting the school’s largest electric loads and preventing over 265,000 pounds of CO₂ emissions each year.
In its first year, Marvelwood saved nearly $20,000 in utility expenses and is projected to achieve more than $600,000 in lifetime savings. The arrays now serve as living labs that support Marvelwood’s teaching gardens and wildlife habitat programs—turning sustainability into a hands-on learning opportunity.
“Investing in solar energy has been a transformative step for our campus, and looking back, it’s clear that moving forward with this project was absolutely the right decision.”
