72 kW

Description
For more than 130 years, Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church has served Montgomery County and, for over a decade, has been recognized as a PC(USA) Earth Care Congregation. Installing a 72 kW community solar system on its roof was a natural step in its stewardship journey.
Because the church’s roof could generate nearly twice its own energy use, Warner chose a community solar model—sharing the benefits with local subscribers and ensuring 25% of the project’s credits support Housing Unlimited, a nonprofit providing affordable housing for people in mental health recovery. Through this partnership, Housing Unlimited saves an estimated $1,400 each year on utility costs while the church advances its mission of environmental care and community support.
With financing made possible by the Montgomery County Green Bank, Warner Memorial’s solar project reduces the church’s carbon footprint, supports low-income households, and demonstrates how faith communities can amplify the impact of clean energy.
“This experience brought together diverse stakeholders, including a church, a social-service non-profit organization, a financial institution, and a private developer - all working towards a common goal of caring for the environment and one another. The collaboration exemplified the power of community in addressing social and environmental challenges. We hope to be an example of collaboration to other organizations and an inspiration to leaders adopting clean energy strategies.”
